Questions and answers

What should I do in a power cut?

First check your own fuse box: if a trip switch is off, the fault is in your home. If your neighbours are off too, it is a fault on the network. Check this map or your network operator, call 105 to report it, and call 999 if anyone is in danger.

How long do power cuts last?

Most local power cuts are fixed within a few hours. Operators often publish an estimated time, which we show with each outage.

Where does this data come from?

From the network operators’ own public outage maps, collected every 10 minutes. powercut is a non-profit project.

In the UK, customers were without power for 59 minutes a year on average from unplanned cuts (2014–2018).
