Questions and answers
What should I do in a power outage?
First check your own fuse board: if a trip switch is off, the fault is in your home. If your neighbours are off too, it is a network fault. Check ESB Networks PowerCheck, and call 112 if anyone is in danger.
How long do power cuts last?
Most local power cuts are fixed within a few hours. Operators often publish an estimated time, which we show with each outage.
Where does this data come from?
From the network operators’ own public outage maps, collected every 10 minutes. powercut is a non-profit project.
In Ireland, customers were without power for 4.3 hours a year on average from unplanned cuts (2014–2018).
